Why do Players Take Steroids?

It is quite normal to wake up and read in your daily newspaper that so and so player has been banned yet again due to consumption of banned substances. It is also found by various studies that intake of such substances results in degrading of body and it is really harmful and all that. But what is it that provokes the players to buy steroids, usually illegally, and consume them in spite of all these disadvantages?

It has been speculated by many writers that there are certain reasons why players buy steroids and some time abuse them. There have been a lot of psychological, financial, sociological and cultural forces which cause the players to loose the concern of their health and jump headlong into this bottomless abyss.

Some athletes are quite insecure and scared. They are frightened of what a poor performance that will spoil their record. They don’t want to embarrass themselves and let others down of the hopes they have given them.

While that may be the reason for some of them, some players are, to put it plainly, are a bit vain and care a whit too much about their appearance. They want to look all big, intimidating and powerful to their peers. They somehow have the idea that just looking brawny will help them win, by scaring the opposite tea by the sheer size of them.
